Chery HIMLA Pickup Targets Latin America with Global Debut in Chile

2025-05-09 Visits:

Recent reports from Chinese media reveal that Chery’s HIMLA pickup will make its global debut in Latin America, with Chile likely to be its first market by the end of 2023. The vehicle is expected to gradually expand to neighboring countries and regions, solidifying its presence across the continent.

Chery’s decision to prioritize Latin America—specifically Chile—stems from two factors: strong consumer demand for pickups in the region, which boasts considerable market potential, and Chery’s established supply chain and sales network across Latin America. These advantages will enable the brand to swiftly introduce the HIMLA pickup to local markets.

Design and Features
The Chery HIMLA pickup made its official debut at the recently concluded Shanghai Auto Show. Its name, derived from the Himalayas, symbolizes a spirit of conquest and fearless challenge. Design-wise, the vehicle adopts a refined and modern aesthetic, featuring a bold front grille paired with a split-type headlight assembly for a striking visual presence. The oversized Chery logo embedded in the grille further enhances brand recognition.

Interior and Powertrain
The cabin mirrors the design language of passenger SUVs or sedans, equipped with a fully digital instrument cluster and a central touchscreen. High-quality materials and craftsmanship are emphasized throughout.

As for powertrain options, international reports indicate that the HIMLA will offer Chery’s latest hybrid system alongside gasoline and diesel engines. The diesel variant is powered by a 2.3L turbocharged inline-4 engine delivering 161 hp (120 kW) and 420 Nm of torque. The gasoline model uses a slightly larger 2.4L naturally aspirated inline-4 engine, producing 158 hp and 230 Nm of torque.

Strategic Positioning
Under Chery’s official strategy, the HIMLA (badged as a Chery vehicle) will focus exclusively on overseas markets, with no plans for domestic sales in China. The Chinese-market version will instead fall under the recently launched Weyland brand. Additionally, a derivative model—the Jietu Traveler—will be sold through Chery’s Jietu sub-brand channel and is also expected to launch later this year.

Stay tuned for updates on this ambitious global rollout.
